WELCOME to our
St. Joseph Parish Family!
We would like to share some information about our Religious Education Program (REP). We offer religious education classes for 1st through 8th grade on Monday evenings from 6:30 pm until 7:45 pm and on Tuesday evenings for 1st through 8th grade from 5:30 pm until 6:45 pm. If you have children in school age level and are interested in gettting your child(ren) involved in our faith formation program, please call our office for a registration packet.
All students will be using the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies program materials. All students will be given packets (not textbooks) to use for weekly instruction, in white plastic bags. Please familiarize yourselves with this publishing company's program at https://www.pflaumweeklies.com/. It is a Liturgical based proram. What does that mean? With Pflaum each grae has age appropriate content to connect students with the upcoming weekend's Mass/Liturgy readings. It blens in the Church's yearly Liturgical Calendar suchy as All Saints/Souls, Advent, Lent, Holy Days, other Feast Days, Saints and Mass. We have been using this approach for the 6, 7 and 8th grades for several years. Now all grades will be on this track. Each grade has a "name". This is important for you to know when you access the Pflaum website.
Grade 1 - Promise
Grades 2, 3 - Good News
Grades 4, 5, 6 - Venture
Grades 7, 8 - Visions
* Students preparing for Sacraments will have additional material to work with (i.e., First Reconcilitation, First Communion and Confimation) plus parents meetings (see the calendar).
Information specific to Home School Families
This is not a virtual, zoom or online program. However, each week students will be required to log onto Pflaum's website to access WEEKLY short assessments after they have read through their materials. In lieu of physical attendance being taken, this is how we will register a student's understanding of the material and engagement in the program to then be able to promote them to the next grade level next year. As they complete each week's lesson, in addition to completing the weekly assessment, they will need to return their packets. See the calendar for all FOUR materials drop-off/pick-up dates throughout the school year. Website links will be attached to the materials.
Information specific to In-Person Families
Classes are being held EVERY OTHER WEEK, with "homework" on the off weeks. Students will therefore be doing FF work weekly. Please reference the calendar to see waht weeks your child will be attending as Monday's and Tuesday's will attend on opposite weeks.
The leadership of our Religious Education Program along with our catechists are constantly looking for new and improved ways to keep our students in a safe environment. We have developed a crisis plan in the event of an emergency and have trained our catechists on how to respond to several types of emergency scenarios.
Our Religious Education Program continues to grow and improve because of the strength of our leadership, the compassion and dedication of our catechist, and the foundation of caring parents here at St. Joseph. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dennae Petrlich, Director of Religious Education at dpetrlich@stjosephtrenton.com or by phoning us at the Parish Office (734) 676-9082. May God continue to bless you and your family.
